Beijing Olympics Opening From: Marjorie. (08 Aug 2008 12:46):
The Beijing Olympics is due to open at 8.08 pm tonight and given the Chinese meticulous attention to detail is likely to be prompt. This puts Pluto firmly in the 10th which certainly reflects the iron control which the authorities are exerting over security and the local population. An emphasised/afflicted Pluto tends to bring great nervousness, a high wired mood and hair trigger responses, as well as much resentment and grumbling. Since Pluto is squaring a Mars Uranus opposition the balance is even more fragile, the atmosphere volatile with rebellions (Ur Pl) being suppressed ruthlessly (Mars Pluto). It''ll be interesting to see what happens come the 11th and 12th next week when the transitting Moon picks up the opposition to Uranus and then squares Mars and conjuncts Pluto, which could be a trigger for some angry outbursts or violence. Since this is running into the exact Mars Pluto square on the 17th which usually casts its shadow in advance, it''ll be very challenging and feel risky.
The other main configuration on the Opening chart is the 6th house Sun opposition to Neptune in the 12th square an 8th house Scorpio Moon. This suggests great secrecy, the local population being hidden from view (Moon Sc in 8th) as well perhaps a hint of the pollution problems which plague Beijing (Sun in 6th house of health opp Nep) also being kept well hidden by massaged pollution figures ( Nep in 12). This T square moves towards exact aspects by 15th/ 16th for the Moon and the Sun to Neptune which is across the Lunar Eclipse opposing Neptune - so foggy may be the word, at the very least major confusion. The athletes will certainly be lack lustre. I have utterly no idea whether the astrocartography for these event charts make sense. But for what it''s worth Australia has a good Jupiter MC and the other success line Sun MC runs through UK, France, Spain and Western Africa. [Looking at the 9/11 chart Pluto MC and Saturn IC did run through Afghanistan so it might give a hint.]

It was always going to be a bumpy road up to and through the Beijing Olympics - especially since the Leo Solar and Leo/Aquarius Lunar Eclipses this month bounce off Mars in both the China 1912 and 1949 charts which will be angry, could be aggressive and violent. Indeed it has started already with 16 Chinese policemen killed today in a bomb blast in one of China''s restless border areas - high in mineral resources peopled by a different ethnic group which guarantees trouble.
The China 1912 chart has Mars at 24 Taurus exactly square the August 16th Lunar Eclipse and it''s conjunct Moon opposition Venus natally so will lead to emotional outbursts. The 1949 China chart has an aggressive, ruthless Mars Pluto conjunction at 14/17 Leo so both the Solar and Lunar will catch that amidships.
The Aug 1 Solar Eclipse fell in the 7th located to Beijing so focuses on co-operation or lacks thereof and needs to take note of the other in relationships which isn''t a Chinese strong point. With a difficult Mars Saturn in the 8th opposition Uranus in the 2nd and squaring Pluto in the 12th in the Eclipse chart it will bring explosive, destructive and clandestine plots.
China Earthquake From: Marjorie. (13 May 2008 15:46): The massive 7.8 on the Richter scale earthquake in China with major loss of life shows up more clearly on the 1912 Republic of China chart than on the later 1949 one. Transitting Neptune is exactly square the afflicted Mars (conj Moon Saturn opp Venus) which is panicky. Uranus is also within less than a degree of the sextile to Neptune which is natally in opposition to Uranus. Uranus Neptune is very highly strung and this opposition was around when the 1906 San Francisco earthquake occurred with devastating consequences.
The previous hugely damaging Chinese earthquake of a similar magnitude to this one in 1976 when 2400,000 died, shows up clearly as well on the 1912 chart with Pluto exactly square the Sun which tends to be devastating and destructive on a national chart, though it symbolically clears the way for new beginnings. In 1976 the transitting Mars (square Neptune) was also picking up Saturn in Taurus which brings tough conditions, especially tied as Saturn is natally into the Moon and Mars in Taurus.
PRESENT INFLUENCES: JAN 08 China is moving into an inward looking, protectionist phase. Saturn moves into its 8th house of joint finances for three years from mid 2008 onwards, though hints of it will be there from January 08, suggesting a tightening of controls on money, with a defensive attitude on the part of China during the global economic crisis. Pluto is also within a couple of years moving into its 12th for many years to come (till 2024) which tends to mean a preoccupation with internal rather than external matters. It will be a time of subversive movements appearing in China. What is certain is that there will be a tremendous re-appraisal of China’s short term future aims from 2010 onwards as Pluto opposes Uranus causing radical upheavals. From late 2010 into 2011 Saturn is conjunct the Sun and then Mercury and Neptune which will be discouraging, as Pluto starts to square the Sun which will involve a major dismantling of old structures. Into 2012 both Pluto from Capricorn and Uranus from Aries hard aspect the China Sun suggesting revolutions, rebellions and a very unstable situation. Nothing will be quite the same after it and the strains continue as Pluto and Uranus move on to connect with Mercury and then Neptune up to 2016.
China’s rise to economic superpower status really started back in 1978 when free market reforms were introduced and that was when Pluto just exited the 8th house where it had stayed through an enormously difficult two decades, during which the Red Revolution occurred. Pluto is now about to move back into one of the hidden houses from 2010 onwards so China’s economic miracle will hit a major setback for a decade and a half thereafter.
Olympics 2008: The Beijing Olympics occurs during an awkward, very tense and risky Mars opposition Uranus square Pluto in the heavens in August 08. The explosive, disruptive Mars Uranus opposition occurs the day before the Olympics officially opens though these influences often trigger a few days early. The Mars Pluto square becomes exact on the 16th so the run up and first half will be exceptionally challenging and stressful. Two days before the opening the Leo Sun is exactly on China’s 7th house Mars, reaching Pluto on August 8th itself so the Olympics will test China’s patience, never their long suit at the best of times, to the limits. For all the show of affable friendliness (Uranus square Venus/Jupiter), China looks anxious in the extreme and rather depressed (Pluto square Mercury/Saturn, Pluto square Saturn/Neptune). There will be a good deal of suppressed aggravation with Venus, Saturn and Mars all transitting China’s 8th house. And on the run up to the Olympics Pluto square Mars/Saturn (mid June to late July) China will feel under attack and angry, perhaps responding brutally to any signs of unrest amongst the population.
Apart from that the only transits of note are Uranus trine Venus (March, Oct 08 and January 09) which could suggest an opening up in foreign relations, even religion and education. Though since Uranus is in the 2nd it could also be unwelcome news from abroad on the economic front. Saturn is also on its Saturn return in September. The run up to this is usually enormously hard work, quite a strenuous time. Since Saturn is in the 8th it will involve business or international finances. The world will suddenly seem a less generous place.
CHINA CHART: An intense, secretive Libra Sun close to Mercury and Neptune, make for an unfathomable national identity, which is civilized, cultured, spiritual but also delusional, deceptive and impractical. A brutal Mars Pluto conjunction in attention-seeking Leo in opposition to an Aquarian Moon is usually what is triggered by transitting planets every time the sleeping dragon rumbles into aggressive activity against neighbours, or against internal dissidents. Uranus in Scorpio was squaring it in 1979 when China invaded Vietnam; transitting Pluto in Scorpio in June 1989 was retrograding off the direct square to Mars, when the Tiannemen Square shootings took place. In 1989, the triple conjunction of Saturn, Uranus and Neptune was also squaring the Sun and other Libra planets in the China chart. The first salvo of gunfire against Taiwan's attemtps to gain independence occurred when Uranus crossed the 3 degree Aquarian Moon. Tensions are high through 1999 as Uranus opposes Mars, over the US bombing of the Chinese Belgrade embassy, and Taiwan continues to be threatened, with internal repression of the popular Falun Gong religious sect.
Influences: Input 2000: Neptune returned to cross the Aquarian Moon in late December 1999, repeating in mid September to mid November 2000, undermining national morale and unsettling efforts to present a humanitarian image. Uranus opposes Pluto from February 10th 2000, repeating in September to early October, and mid November to mid December 2000 suggesting a revolution or major transformation of internal China, and also heightening tension in its external relations.
Further upsets with USA occurred from mid November 1999 onwards with transitting Uranus conjunct the composite Moon, and Pluto squaring Venus, putting major strains on diplomatic relations. Unease with Russia, apparent through August 1999, will resurface as Uranus reaches 14 degrees in mid December 1999, though the major disagreements may not come to a head until 2001 as Pluto squares the Sun Saturn conjunction on the composite chart. The China/United Nations chart was jolted by Uranus opposing Pluto at 14 degrees Leo (August & December 1999), and more obvious rifts appeared as Uranus opposed Saturn at 18 degrees in late February/March 2000, returning August 9th to September 1st, and December 17th to January 1st 2001. Neptune also opposed the 4 degree Leo Mars (late January to mid February 2000)and again August 4th to September 17th, and November 12th to December 21st 2000, seriously undermining trust and mutual cooperation.
The China/NATO chart hit a series of submerged reefs which rocked mutual confidence through the Kosovan crisis, culminating in the US bombing of the Chinese Belgrade Embassy, seen by many Chinese Generals not as an accident but as deliberate sabotage. Neptune opposed a 3 degrees Leo Mars in the composite chart in late February & March 1999, again mid June to late July 1999, and returned on December 23rd 1999 running to January 24th 2000. Pluto squaring a 10 degree Saturn in Virgo picked up from late 1999, returns through late June to October 2000. This tends to coincide with heavy pressures on a relationship - inexorable pressure meets immoveable resistance. Uranus opposing Pluto at 17 Leo from February 10th 2000, September to early October, and again November 11th to December 17th 2000, will pose stark questions about who holds control.
