Michelle Obama is the undoubted hit of the London G20 Summit gathering. Looking great and in optimistically colourful outfits in contrast to everyone else she stands out a mile. Her meeting with HM Queen appeared to have gone down so well she was asked to ''keep in touch''. Michelle''s Capricorn Sun falls close to HM''s Capricorn Ascendant in her 1st so she brings a vitality to HM''s often slightly defensive personality. Plus Michelle''s Jupiter falls in HM''s 3rd house so there''s an ease of communication. Both have Venus in Pisces.
The composite chart is even more heart warming with an affectionate Sun Venus conjunction with an even more expansive, mutually confidence boosting Sun Jupiter conjunction as well. Not that it is a relationship which wants to be 24/7 since Uranus square the composite Sun hints at the need for space. And there''s the ever-present Mars opp Pluto which appears regularly in the HM Queen''s relationships even within the family - so there''s a mark which is over stepped at your peril. The power and respect belongs to HM.
Barack Obama''s relations with the Queen at a social level are excellent. His Leo Sun is exactly conjunct her Leo Moon so they feel in tune and his Moon falls in her 4th which again gives a comfort factor. And he has a water sign Venus in Cancer to flow with her Venus in Pisces.
In their composite chart there is a charmingly diplomatic and friendly Venus in Taurus square Jupiter opp Pluto. But at a working level it is more fraught with a Sun opp Saturn and Uranus opp Mars so there will/would be major differences of approach, barriers and some irritation. He might be less deferential than she''d like once he''s got over first-meeting nerves.

Rush Limbaugh, the right wing, motor-mouth US radio talk show presenter, is stepping up to be the lead voice of opposition to Barack Obama. He has already said he hopes Obama fails.
Limbaugh is a 12th house Capricorn Sun in a vague square to Neptune in the 8th so has a hidden, rather slippery and unrealistic temperament. But the two factors which drive his virulently outspoken approach are:
1) a ruthless, angry and very forceful Mars in Aquarius in the 1st opposition Pluto in the 7th square a Scorpio midheaven. Mars in Aquarius usually takes a no-compromise stance at the best of times and it is doubled in strength being in the 1st and further amplified by the Pluto opposition from the 7th plus Pluto in the 7th is fairly dominating and all of that aggravated rage from Mars and Pluto funnels into his midheaven and career.
2) His Mercury in Capricorn opposes Uranus which is again outspoken, prides itself on being honest though can be just plain eccentric, stubborn and tactless. This opposition squares onto an 8th house Saturn which again gives a sense of a personality to whom co-operation does not come easily if at all. Not a people-friendly person to put it mildly.

His synastry (chart cross over) with Obama is not easy with Limbaugh''s afflicted Pluto hitting Obama''s Uranus and Sun in Leo so Obama''s innovative plans bring out Limbaugh''s need to suppress at all costs. Limbaugh''s Capricorn Sun is conjunct Obama''s Saturn so there''s coldness coming from Obama which is hardly surprising. Plus Limbaugh''s unaspected Pisces Moon is opposition Obama''s Mars in Virgo - so their interface sparks off Obama''s anger. Both share an intense, persevering Scorpio midheaven - but driven by very different agendas.
On their composite chart there is a Pluto square Saturn and Mars (chained together by circumstances with simmering resentment and major violent differences of opinion). There''s also a Moon opp Sun and Neptune square Uranus - so always at cross purposes. The composite chart does give timings. While there are intense differences exactly now and off and on until late 2010 with tr Pluto sextile Sun, it will be 2010 and 2011 when their relationship reaches a real low. That''s when tr Neptune squares the composite Saturn and opposes Pluto. Limbaugh looks remarkably upbeat and confident in 2011 which is a depressing prospect though his success doesn''t necessarily mean Obama''s failure.

Obama Daschle etc From: Marjorie. (05 Feb 2009 13:14): Watching what Obama is having to cope with in setting up a new administration I''d think a scattered Gemini Moon might be quite helpful - talk about multi-tasking! It also gives him detachment. Tho'' I might be biased since I have one.
I do think his Mars in Virgo trine Saturn in Capricorn will be immensely useful since it is disciplined, steady and practical and gives him grit. There are bound to be mistakes along the way and the media tends to blow every trivial mis-step into a major catastrophe. I don''t know much about the Tom Daschle tax muddle but I would think he probably took his accountant''s advice and signed what was put under his nose. The complexities of any country''s tax systems are well beyond the wit or understanding of most people who don''t have time to do an accountancy degree or keep up with constantly changing regulations.
Obama has transitting Pluto trine his Sun/Mars midpoint exactly at the moment which is frustrating and irritating - and Daschle has tr Pluto trine his Virgo Mars which is much the same though stronger. Obama also has tr Neptune square Mars/Saturn till Feb 12th which is generally undermining and that returns Oct/Nov 09.. March looks to be a crisis ridden month with tr Uranus opposition his Mars which is unstable, insecure and usually a shock of some sort - which is also when he has a tricky time with Hillary so maybe some foreign affairs disaster; plus tr Pluto sextile his Sun/Saturn in March which is a real slog.

Another similarity between them - evidently NZ PM-elect John Keys had a lost half brother from his father''s first marriage who only made contact again this year. If memory serves me right Obama had lost contact with various half siblings.
Obama''s charisma versus John Keys'' dullness is almost certainly due to house position. If Key was for instance a Capricorn Ascendant with an 8th house Sun he might appear dull, though in fact he''d just be hidden, perhaps appearing bland on the surface. Pluto on a Virgo Ascendant might produce the same kind of effect tho'' that feels less likely since he won.

Rudd''s Uranus is also conjunct Obama''s Sun so it''s a rebellious combination. The composite has a Sun Venus Pluto so there''ll be a veneer of friendliness (Venus) but really it''s a power struggle and with Jupiter square Pluto there''ll be one-upmanship games. 2009 will be argumentative and insecure since tr Uranus opposes the composite Mars with tr Saturn conjunct.
Robert Mugabe, in typically outrageous form, thinks he''ll get special favour status with the new White House Administration which with an argumentative Mercury opp Mars square Pluto in Leo between himself and the President Elect is not just unlikely but right off the scale.

Much has been made of Gordon Brown getting a mere 10 minutes phone call with Barack Obama compared to 30 minutes with Nicholas Sarkozy, though he admittedly is President of the EU at the moment as well as France.
The relationship between Sarkozy may start on a high but it won''t last. Their composite has a tricky Sun Neptune opp Moon square Uranus with Neptune opposing Jupiter - so it''ll be a highly strung interface, tending to start on a euphoric high (Jup Nep) but wearing thin rapidly into 2009. There is also a bad tempered Mars opposition Saturn square Venus in their composite which is being seriously aggravated by tr Pluto from late December and jolted into coldness by tr Uranus and Saturn into 09.
The BO relationship with Gordon Brown is definitely one of necessity, not choice, with an underlying struggle for dominance going on - with a chill Sun opp Saturn square Pluto. There may be flutters of cheer between them from time to time with Mars trine Jupiter but that won''t last long since tr Neptune undermines Jupiter''s enthusiasm and tr Saturn and Uranus will have tempers flaring into 09 as they rattle the composite Mars.

My instinctive initial thought was The Fool was the archetype Obama mad me think of most - not in its witty court jester sense - more in the leap of blind faith that took him from young Senator to President Elect in the space of two years. And his message of CHANGE is an invitation for the USA to walk into the unknown which is typical of The Fool. There''s a trickster quality to the invitation - is it all an empty bubble, a delusion or could it be the act of experimental courage that really makes a difference? He does carry some of the naive innocence of the Fool. But I suspect there may be more of The Magician about him, since he is less naive, better organised in the way he tackles turning dreams into reality.
The Magician is educated, thoughtful, wants to know how things work, yet is still able to tap deep into the underpinnings of life to its creative centre. The Magician is like a sculptor who frees a beautiful image from the stone he is carving, which was always inherently there but hidden in rough rock. Or like the Gnostic Christians who believed that life was about freeing the soul trapped in the body; or the alchemists who freed gold from a lump of lead. Obama managed to mobilise the underdog, the disenchanted young vote, the disenfranchised and made them feel they belonged to a cause worth fighting for. If he does nothing else in future that is still a memorable achievement.
But there is still always an element of the trickster about the dual faceted Magician - so we won''t know till he hits a few reality checks along the way quite how much of the dream can be anchored and how much was empty rhetoric. Hope which is a strong part of The Fool isn''t enough, there has to be awareness, persistence and practicality as well which The Magician can bring if he is focussed and if the time allows it.
One of the most memorable quotes about dreams comes from T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia): "Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible." Lawrence fulfilled his dream by freeing the Arabs from the Ottoman Turks. But was then consummately betrayed by his superiors as were the Arabs - and so the dream he had realized thro'' blood, sweat and tears crumbled. Life does sometimes get in the way of the dream - usually does - and Obama is facing more rolling crises than he''s ever seen in his life as he steps into the White House. I think he will do some good and he does have grit from that Mars Saturn but he''ll be very hemmed in by circumstance. I frankly doubt he''ll transform himself into The Emperor which is really what is needed.

On Obama''s chart first. He seems elated and energized through November (Pluto conj Jup/MC; Uranus tr Jup/Pl) though also marginally depressed (Pluto Moon/Saturn) presumably over his grandmother. From Dec 22 to Jan 20th 09 he is coming down to earth with a bump, realising a tricky situation (Ur squ Jup/Nep) and has rather unpleasant transits over the Inauguration (Nep squ Mars/Saturn = self torment, waning powers, low vitality, deaths). He''ll bounce up as Jupiter moves across his ascendant from late March 09. Though he does have the insecure, disruptive tr Uranus opp his 8th house Mars thro'' March 09 (returning Nov/Dec 09) - this could be shocks around the economy given the 8th house''s financial connections or it could be death experiences. This influence returns Nov/Dec 09 alongside the undermining inauguration transits there again in Oct/Nov 09. In Aug 09 tr Saturn is conjunct his Mars which will bring setbacks perhaps financial and Saturn then continues on for a three year tour through his 8th house which could suggest, not surprisingly, that economic woes will dog his first term.
The first two years are going to be a tough slog for both himself and Joe Biden since both have Pluto sextile/trine their Sun/Saturn (and tr Pluto square their composite Saturn in Aries). But he will also put positive reforms in place in 2009 since tr Uranus sextiles his Saturn, moving on to sextile Jupiter in 2010/11 which will be morale boosting for him.
Later in his presidency it gets really muddled since he has tr Uranus trine MC in 10/11 which is a positive change of direction. But at the same time tr Neptune squares his MC which usually accompanies a sense of failure as plans fail. His Solar Arc Pluto squares his Saturn by 2011/12 which is stuck, as his Solar Arc Mars squares his natal Sun which is aggravating. Tr Neptune squares his Moon in 12/13 which is either low energy physically or domestic problems; and with both tr Pluto and tr Uranus on his Sun/Moon midpoint both his public popularity and his marriage look to be strained thro'' 11/12. He will have some successes since tr Pluto sextiles Sun/Jupiter in 11/12 but there will be definite minuses as well as a few pluses.
Joe Biden will have a bumpy start into his Vice Presidency with tr Saturn and Uranus hard aspecting his MC until mid 09 as well as Solar Arc Neptune opposing his natal Saturn for this first eighteen months which suggests serious worries and confusion. He also looks seriously stuck in 2011 as his Solar Arc Sun opposes his natal Pluto then as well as tr Neptune square his Sun in 10/11 which isn''t successful.
The USA chart also has its Solar Arc Saturn conjunct Uranus in 2011/12 which does suggest jolting changes, tensions surfacing; plus Solar Arc Pluto conjunct natal Neptune by 2012 which is fairly devastating. However a note of cheer comes in late 10/11 from Solar Arc Sun trine natal Jupiter.
Obama has landed at the most critical and difficult time for the US starting with the Saturn Uranus opposition hard aspecting the natal Mars Neptune square until late 09 = very unsettled, anxiety provoking, setbacks, jolting surprises. Also tr Pluto opposing Venus through 09/10 (= challenges around money, intense reactions); then tr Saturn square Jupiter in late 10/11 (= cash cutbacks); then tr Pluto opp Jup in 10/11 (= over confidence, over expansion, too much force); then tr Uranus sextile Pluto in 10 to early 11 which is disruptive, an upheaval or rebellion; then tr Uranus squ Venus and Jupiter in 11/12 which is erratic, sudden surprises, and then towards 2014 both Uranus and Pluto hard aspecting the USA Sun. Maybe Joe Biden is going to play hard man to Barack Obama''s softly softly approach in Iran! In fact worryingly Joe Biden has his Mars Desc on an arc through Moscow down through the Caucasus so it may be the Russian confrontation there which proves the real difficulty.
Also Joe Biden has his Mars IC down thro'' NEastern Russia, Japan and Australia as has Obama - interesting to see what shakes down here.
I also kind of wonder whether the approaching punch up over Arctic oil and who has territorial rights in the Arctic Circle with Russia already having doen a smash and grab raid may not end in another heated front with Russia. Obama has two of his Mars lines up into those regions - on north western Canada and north as well as in NEastern Russia. Just as I was pondering on Barack Obama''s astrocartography, President Medvedev announced that for the first time since the Cold War Russia was putting missiles on its borders. And there indeed is one of Obama''s Mars lines straight through Georgia and the Caucasus, one of the likely flare up points of his future presidency. Mars lines are where Presidents are likely to go to war. [GWB''s Mars MC line goes thro'' Afghanistan; Maggie Thatcher''s Mars Asc thro'' the Falklands].
This Mars Asc line of Obama''s runs from Moscow down through Georgia, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia. So any of these could be major irritation areas for him. His Mars MC line runs through far north eastern Russia in the Arctic Circle down through Japan and Western Australia. Since he''s hardly likely to declare war on Australia, it may be a financial battle with Japan, the world''s second biggest economy after the USA, which picks up that Mars.
Afghanistan may bring emotional shocks but it isn''t hugely emphasised. Teheran, Iran suggests great patience and certainly more diplomacy rather than aggression.

I was just thinking today that Barack Obama''s Pluto square Moon/Saturn from late October through November which looked kind of depressed for a win might well be his grandmother going or at least causing great concern. Pluto Moon/Saturn is mourning, separation from wife or mother and especially being Saturn could point to the elderly. She seems to have been the most important person in his upbringing - perhaps that 8th house Mars relates to her.
Just goes to show you should never join too many dots together and assume that all transits point to the same situation. He''s also got upbeat successful ones at the same time.
Certainly both he and Michelle have horrible midpoint transits across the Inauguration - from January 18th he''s got Neptune square Mars/Saturn which is low energy, panicky, maybe also given his potential position a military disaster or at least a catastrophe of some variety which costs lives. Michelle from the same dates has Neptune square Mars/Pluto which is also disaster prone.
John McCain is awash with undermining Neptunian transits and transits to Neptune midpoints from late October right through. Though nothing as tricky as Mr and Mrs O.
I wonder what December is going to bring since it''s a very tough month astrologically? The Sun and Mars in Sagittarius bouncing grittily off Saturn which is generally accident prone, argumentative and can be militarily connected. Then a Sun Pluto conjunction on the Capricorn Ingress with a Mars Pluto on the 28th which is fairly ruthless and high risk.
The Capricorn Ingress for Washington has Mars on the Ascendant square a 9th house Saturn with Mars also conjunct Sun, Pluto in the 1st - so I imagine it would be foreign stresses and strains. There is anxiety one gathers from media reports of a terrorist attack in the gap between Election and Inauguration.
Also transitting Saturn is square the USA Mars from December 2nd to January 29th which looks very edgy, impatient with setbacks etc at the very least. Tr Saturn gets to within a degree of being conjunct Obama''s Mars then but doesn''t quite make the exact aspect before retrograding.
On the Election transits assuming the birth times are spot on I''d reckon Obama will win. But I was never sure what all those Inauguration transits were about apart from the panic of finding they had just stepped into the worst job in the world with risks not only from outside the USA but also from racist elements within the borders.

Michelle Obama''s speech at the Denver Convention was eagerly anticipated as an image-retriever from the fears that she was embittered by the treatment of African-Americans in the USA. She is a fiery late Capricorn Sun conjunct Mars in early Aquarius, not a lady who appreciates having to make compromises. Her go ahead Jupiter in Aries squares Mercury making her enthusiastic but also prone to exaggerating. And her sensitive Venus in Pisces opposes Uranus Pluto in Virgo so she is inclined to be emotionally excitable and changeable. Saturn in cool, scientific Aquarius probably close to her Moon does calm her down. At first glance her birth chart (without birth time) seems rather scattered and disconnected.
It''s only when you move into the less obvious quintile and septile aspects (5th and 7th Harmonic) that it starts to pull together. On her 5H there is an exact Mars Uranus conjunction which hints at courage and decisiveness and is the mark of a revolutionary who will fight against constraints. Since it squares Saturn there''s a sense of major difficulties to be overcome with some risk. But her vision for her life is one which involves excitement and some danger.
Her 7th Harmonic is even stronger with a close Earth Grand Trine of Venus Neptune trine Uranus trine Sun with a close Sun opposition Saturn forming a rare, talented and lucky kite. Robert Hand remarks of septiles in a chart that where there is an excess of them it gives an other-wordly temperament not in connection with physical world as we know it. Perhaps hinted at in her speech yesterday when she talked of how things oughts to be and not as they are. In her 7H her septiles are mainly in earth signs so perhaps grounding some of that impossible dream into something that might actually become real. Uranus and Saturn feature strongly in both 5th and 7th Harmonic so creating change, bringing about reform and pushing against the boundaries are her inspiration even if it takes extraordinary effort.
This year her Secondary Progressed and Solar Arc Sun are exactly trine her Moon''s North Node in Cancer so it''s a key moment for her; though the SP/SA Sun also opposes the Uranus/Pluto midpoint which makes for great emotional tensions and can lead to freedom or a catastrophe. Certainly her life will never be the same again.
She''s very upbeat now till late October 08 with Pluto opp Jupiter/Pluto though her mood may dip mid September as transitting Saturn hits her Pluto. She looks relieved around the time of the election in early November but is panicking around the Inauguration feeling undermined and at risk.
Her interface with the USA chart is problematic since her Sun (and Mars) falls conjunct the USA Pluto so she feels dominated and suppressed but she also has the ability to show the USA how to use its'' power more effectively. Her Saturn falls close to the USA Moon so she seems defensive to the general population, not warm and mumsy enough. Her Moon''s North Node is conjunct the USA Cancerian Sun so her awareness of social trends helps the USA; and in turn her career ambitions will be helped by political involvement in the US.
The composite chart of Michelle/USA is tricky with a fiery argumentative Sun Mars conjunction opposing Neptune squaring Uranus so while together they could spearhead major change it will also give rise to suspicions of fanatical beliefs, a divergence of views and is not really a mutually supportive combination. The composite Saturn does trine Sun Mars hinting at the effort needed on both sides to make this work. There''s also a Jupiter Pluto opposition hinting at a relationship in which both sides want the upper hand.

Joe Biden From: Marjorie. (23 Aug 2008 20:40):
Barack Obama''s choice of Joe Biden as VP running mate could throw up the odd problem in terms of inter personal relationships. Biden is a quadruple Scorpio (shades of Hillary!) with a powerful Mars in Sc square Pluto and Mercury, Sun, Venus conjunct in Scorpio so he''s ultra determined, very charming when it suits him but not one to forgive slights in a hurry. He''s also lucky with Jupiter in Cancer trine his Sun, Venus and Mercury. His Pluto not only squares Mars, it probably also squares his Taurus Moon making him very controlling indeed, difficult to budge. Pluto also sits on the point of a mini grand trine to Uranus Saturn in Gemini trine Neptune. He is innovative (Sat Ur) but can be autocratic.
Biden''s highly emphasised Pluto is conjunct Obama''s Sun which usually indicates a rather domineering relationship where Biden will want the upper hand - in however subtle and Scorpionic a way. His Mars in Scorpio also squares Obama''s Sun which could be argumentative. Though what is more difficult is Biden''s Mars conjunct Obama''s emphasised Neptune so he''ll find Obama evasive, tricky to pin down and will be exasperated by his impracticality. In the composite this is even more clearly marked with a Mars Neptune conjunction which suggests a subtly undermining interplay. When one wins the other feels he loses and vice versa - so it''s not mutually supportive.
It''s not that the (potential) President and Vice P have to get on since Bill Clinton''s composite with Al Gore indicated major differences of approach and opinion (Sun Uranus conj square Mars opp Moon).
Biden does have a somewhat similar lucky transit to his Mars/Jupiter midpoint over the election as does Obama though he also has the usual set of exhausted, panicky influences which suggest either losing or just worn out at the end of months of campaigning. If his birth time of around 8.32am is accurate then he does have transitting Saturn about to cross into his 10th from December 08 for six years which is usually a successful, responsible time and Uranus moves into his 4th at the same time perhaps hinting at a house move. Plus Pluto trines his Sun/Uranus in December which is usually about major changes in lifestyle. 2009 looks a lucky year for him financially with Uranus trine his Jupiter though also a real slog for 09/10 with Pluto trine Sun/Saturn.
If they do make it together into the White House it''ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Biden isn''t quite Cheney but he''s not going to sit on the sidelines. His astrocartography on this birth time suggest his two major problem zones will be Russia and Iran (Mars Desc line).

Barack Obama chart: He�s a Leo Sun and Mercury both square Neptune so is an entertainer, good at holding his audience, though vague and at times an impractical dreamer. Mercury opposes Jupiter so he talks big, is very enthusiastic but can promise more than he�ll deliver. This opposition squares onto Neptune in Scorpio which can be self deceptive since he�ll tend to misread the messages his feelings give him, and it can lead to discontentment since he yearns for what is really not possible. Others will find him elusive, even evasive at times, difficult to pin down. Jupiter square Neptune does not give him sound financial judgement and tends to make him overly optimistic.
On this birth time it�s a 9th house Neptune emphasised which would fit with his early law training and practice as well as his University lecturing and book writing though not something he was ever totally committed to. With Uranus in wide conjunction to his Sun he is an innovator and a maverick, keen to follow through on his own ideas. With Uranus close to the Moon�s North Node in Leo he does have leadership ability especially as a catalyst for change (Ur). Mars in trine to Saturn in Capricorn he does have discipline and courage and can cope with crisis. Saturn in Cap suggests a tough childhood where he had to learn self reliance with his life warming and becoming easier the older he gets. Saturn is in an out of sign conjunction with Jupiter so he does want to marry his idealism to solid material results. Though as always with Sat Jup he�ll need to watch that his iconic status (like John Lennon and Princess Diana) - in his case as the first serious black contender for the presidency - does not fly him too high. Sat Jup can have a blowback effect if Jupiter�s expansiveness takes over too much; then Saturn cuts down to size. Obama was born only a few weeks after Princess Diana.

There are only two planets activated by transits this year. One is transitting Saturn conjunct his Pluto which was around last November, this February and returns for a final time after mid July. This produces a mood of high insecurity, a jolt to his self esteem which will tempt him into hasty reactions to prop up his morale and prove himself. Late April to late May does see Jupiter trine his Mars which generally boosts confidence and raises energy levels and this is around again in early December 08. He did well in the early Primaries with Uranus sextile his Jupiter/Pluto midpoint and that returns over the election. But he�s been sagging since mid March with a Neptune square Mars/Saturn which runs till late this month and returns in July and across the inauguration in Jan 09. It lowers energy, morale and motivation as well as bringing difficulties. Neptune then moves on to square Sun/Pluto from late April to late June which is equally a slumping influence. But given that he�s now been nominated he obviously has swept aside the more negative of the effects of those though what should be a sure fire victory still seems elusive. His Secondary Progressed Sun and Solar Arc Sun are sextile his midheaven this year which is good for ambitions.
