Sir Richard Dannatt - 15 Oct 06
23 December 1950. Birth time unknown. UK
A charming, understated, serious Capricorn with his Sun conjunct Venus, and closely square Saturn in Libra, he would seem to be the model of respectability, conventionality and tradition. Yet the recently appointed Head of the British Army has broken with political protocol and caused a major furore with his remarks about the inadvisability of leaving UK troops in Iraq in opposition to UK and USA Government policy. What shakes him loose from his self doubting, overly dutiful Saturn square, is a rebellious, outspoken Uranus opposition to his Sun and Venus. This prompts him to kick over the traces once in a while and to reject unnecessary restrictions on his freedom.
Saturn squaring onto this opposition, becoming the focal point of a T square, confers on him executive ability, though it also makes him demand total control of his territory, and resentful of any outside interference. Add onto this his Mars in Aquarius which is resolutely independent and intolerant of authoritarian instructions, and he was never going to be a subservient general willing to toe his political masters line without complaint. Though Mars here can be rash, discarding the old before the new has been set in place, more intent on upsetting the established order rather than improving it. He may have pause for reflection over this winter as transitting Saturn conjuncts Pluto on the other side of his chart in a wide Mars Pluto opposition. It will cause him frustration and irritation from March to early June 07. And his relationship with Tony Blair will continue to be at loggerheads until mid 2007.
An emphasised Saturn does not always bring staying power, though when its problems are resolved does produce an individual who works steadily towards bringing law, order and justice to society, especially here since it falls in socially consicous Libra. He gains respect for his integrity, personal leadership and fairness. Neptune also on the point of a T square to a Mercury Uranus opposition also hints at a need to take short cuts, and an impatience about walking the longer, slower route to fulfilling his objectives.
What probably fishes him out of trouble is his Jupiter in Pisces lucky sextile his Sun, trine Uranus. It will come to his aid when Pluto heads for the conjunction to his Sun in 2008 pulling down old structures in his life and squaring Saturn in 2009 and 2010 putting him under severe pressures, standing his life on its head for several years as it approaches the Pluto Uranus opposition in 2001/12. Through 2009 and 2010 Pluto will sextile Jupiter bringing renewed confidence even in the midst of extreme challenges and pulling success out of chaos.
